Thesis Template: Université de Sherbrooke
Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS) offers official templates for the presentation of master’s dissertations and doctoral theses. The standards vary slightly by faculty, but this guide covers the general requirements and the key resources from the library and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FLSH).

Important: Université de Sherbrooke does not impose a single university-wide layout standard. The margins, font and line spacing above come from the FLSH Guide de présentation du travail écrit. Other faculties (science, engineering, law, etc.) have their own protocols: always check your faculty’s guide.

Variations by faculty
Sherbrooke’s requirements can vary by faculty. The main differences relate to:
- The required bibliographic style (APA, Vancouver, Chicago, IEEE depending on the field)
- The length of the summary
- The article-based format (some faculties accept it, others do not)

Common mistakes to avoid
- Margins not compliant with your faculty: the FLSH guide calls for 1.5 cm top and bottom and 3 cm left and right; other faculties may require different values.
- Single line spacing in the body text: per the FLSH guide, the body must be double-spaced.
- Bibliographic style not compliant with the faculty: check your specific faculty’s requirements.
- Table of contents not updated: update the fields before the PDF export.
- Missing summary or summary in a single language: some faculties require both a summary and an abstract.
